Express buses to be deployed in EDSA

The heavy traffic in EDSA everyday causes many commuters a lot of headaches and delays.

This is why authorities are now aiming to launch the ‘express buses’ project that they hope will help counter the increasing growth of private vehicles in EDSA.

It seeks to deploy some 50 express buses that will only stop on two busy thoroughfares – at its pick-up point and its destination.

The project is headed by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) in collaboration of the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB)

MMDA Assistant General Manager Emerson Carlos explained on Sunday that “The buses will travel from one point on EDSA to another without any stops. For example, the bus will come from the Ayala business center bound for EDSA North Avenue. It will travel to its destination without stopping at any point.”

The launching of the project would be done during the first quarter of the year.

Carlos also said that after launching of the project, they will observe for a while if the agencies would determine whether there was a need to add more express buses. (MRFB)
