(Eagle News) — The official twitter account of Saudia Airlines said that there was just a “false alarm for hijacking for SV flight 872” from Jeddah to Manila.
Initially, the plane was isolated at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) after airport personnel received a distress call that the plane was “under threat.”
Immediately, the plane was subjected to standard procedures for possible hijacking upon touchdown at around 3 p.m. Tuesday, September 20.
“We cannot take any chances. We have to implement the standard procedures,” said Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) general manager Ed Monreal.
The disembarking passengers were subjected to the proper inspection procedures.
After the plane had touched down and when security and police personnel went to check on the flight, a crew member reportedly told airport personnel that there was just an accidental pressing of the distress button while the plane was on air.
