Fariñas to urge SC to intervene in squabble over who should comprise, lead House minority bloc

(Eagle News) — Former House Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas said he would ask the Supreme Court to intervene in the feud on who should comprise and lead the minority bloc in the Lower Chamber.

In a television interview, Fariñas noted that under House rules, those who voted for Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo as Speaker could no longer vie for a minority bloc post.

Rep. Danilo Suarez, who voted and for and campaigned for Arroyo to be Speaker, has said he would ask Arroyo to retain him as the minority bloc leader.

Several Liberal Party lawmakers led by Rep. Miro Quimbo and who did not vote for Arroyo are also calling themselves the “authentic minority.”

According to Fariñas, it should be  ABS Party-list Rep. Eugene De Vera who should replace Suarez  because he was the only deputy minority leader who did not vote for Arroyo.

Arroyo was elected as Speaker on July 23, the day President Rodrigo Duterte held his State of the Nation Address.

She replaced Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez.
