(Eagle News) — Today, April 17, is the last day for the filing of taxes and Filipinos are lining up to beat the deadline.
Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Caesar R. Dulay earlier reminded individual and corporate taxpayers that they have until April 17 to file their 2016 income tax returns.
The BIR issued Revenue Memorandum Circular No. 28-17 for this as the earlier actual April 15 deadline fell on a holiday, a Saturday which is also a non-working day.
Dulay said that the deadline is automatically moved to the next working day which is April 17 (Monday).

The BIR said that there would no longer be any extensions. Penalties will be imposed on late filers like the 25 percent surcharge on the tax due, 20 percent interest per year as well as the compromise penalties.
The bureau is also sure it would reach the P1.8 trillion collections it had earlier targeted based on the recently-concluded tax collection campaign nationwide.
