‘Finding Dory’ swims to the top of the US box office

According to box office site boxofficemojo.com, ‘Finding Dory’ has swum ahead of its cinematic competition for its second week with a predicted $73.2 million in ticket sales.

The sequel to the hit Pixar animation ‘Finding Nemo’ has now grossed around $400 million globally.

Coming in behind Dory was ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’, the sequel to the 1996 Will Smith hit. That was expected to take $41.6 million at the box office.

Third is the Warner Bros buddy comedy ‘Central Intelligence’ which is estimated to take $18.3 million – around half its first weekend takings.

‘The Shallows’, about a surfer (Blake Lively) who finds herself in the feeding grounds of a great white shark, nearly made back its $17 million dollar budget with an estimated $16.7 million at the US box office.

STX Entertainment’s ‘Free State of Jones’ rounds out the top five, with an estimated box office take of $7.77 million, narrowly ahead of ‘The Conjuring 2’, which summoned an estimated $7.70 million.
