Indonesian President Joko Widodo welcomed Finland president Sauli Niinisto to the capital Jakarta on Tuesday for a two-day visit aimed at enhancing bilateral relations.
The visit by the Finnish delegation, made up of representatives of 11 businesses, was very important to enhance trade cooperation between the two countries as according to foreign ministry data Indonesia’s trade increased about 780 million U.S. dollars, while Finnish investment also increased from 800 thousand to 3.6 million U.S. dollars.
Foreign minister for Finland, Timo Soini and Indonesia’s energy and natural resources minister, Suirman Sa-Id signed a bilateral agreement overseen by the two presidents.
At a joint news conference, Niinisto said discussions with his Indonesian counterpart focused on energy and infrastructure.
Niinisto’s delegation represented large businesses in sectors including clean and efficient resources, infrastructure, and port management and information and communication technology.
Widodo last visited Finland in 2006 and Niinisto’s predecessor, Tarja Halonen, last visited Indonesia in 2008.
