(Eagle News) — Vice-President Leni Robredo and former President Benigno Aquino III led Liberal Party leaders and members during their gathering opposing extrajudicial killings and criticizing what they feared was the return of martial law in the whole country under the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte.
The LP gathering pressed for justice for the victims of extrajudicial killings and alleged abuses of the Duterte administration as they commemorated the 45th anniversary of the Martial Law declaration of the late President Ferdinand Marcos.
Aside from Robredo and Aquino, the other LP officers who attended were Senate Minority Leader Senator Franklin Drilon, senators Francis Pangilinan and Bam Aquino, Liberal Party congressmen including Marikina Rep. Miro Quimbo, and former officers of the Aquino administration including former Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas.
The program was organized by the group “Tindig Pilipinas.”
According to senator Bam Aquino, the cases of human rights abuse should not be repeated, as he denounced the cases of recent extrajudicial killings.
Robredo also spoke on how the country should have already learned the lessons of the past martial law regime.
