Former Senate President Nene Pimentel passes away

(Eagle News)–Former Senate President Nene Pimentel has passed away.

Senator Koko Pimentel, his son, made the confirmation in a Facebook post.

He said his father had passed away at 5 a.m.

In a radio interview, Commission on Human Rights Commissioner Gwen Pimentel-Gana said her father died after after battling lymphoma and pneumonia.

He was 85 years old.

“We thank all those who have been a part of his life,” Koko said in a reply to a Tweet.

The Pimentel patriarch was a member of the Consultative Committee that President Rodrigo Duterte formed to look into the 1987 Constitution and draft a proposal for a federal form of government.

Pimentel was among those who created the Local Government Code, which allowed local government unit to have their own sources of revenue.

His remains will be brought to the Senate for necrological services.

Pimentel’s remains will be buried at the Heritage Park in Parañaque. With a report from Meanne Corvera
