Free online courses on Child Rights Promotion and Protection

QUEZON CITY, Aug. 4 —  The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) offers online courses on child rights promotion and protection to everyone for free and with no admission requirements.

Dr. Grace Javier-Alfonso, UPOU Chancellor, said that creating a child-friendly and protected community is a collective effort and should be a concern of every caring citizen and to do this, massive capability building efforts are needed. She added that UPOU, as an educational institution and a public service university, takes on the task for this challenge by offering courses as massive open online courses (MOOCs).

In collaboration with UNICEF-Philippines, UPOU offers eight courses on Child Rights Promotion and Protection covering the following topics:

  • Convention on the rights of the child
  • Developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating programs on child rights protection
  • Communicating, advocating, and mobilizing for child rights protection and promotion, including social media and children

Each course will run for four to six weeks and will be delivered in multimedia format — video, text, and podcast.  Course content will be in English and in Filipino to minimize language barriers.

The offering of first two courses shall start on 15 August 2015 and can be accessed at model.upou.edu.ph.
