SYDNEY, Australia (AFP)–Former English Premier League defender Kalifa Cisse has joined the Central Coast Mariners in Australia’s A-League on a one-year deal, the club said on Thursday.
The Frenchman, 34, heads to Australia after stints with Reading, Bristol City and Derby County. He last played with BEC Tero Sasana in Thailand.
Cisse, who has five caps with the Mali national team, worked with new Mariners head coach Mike Mulvey at BEC Tero Sasana.
“We have a really young team here at the Mariners, so I bring experience into the team,” Cisse said.
“I really want to help the young players to grow — that’s one of my highest priorities.”
