(Eagle News)– Former Health Secretary Janette Garin and her husband Iloilo Rep. Oscar Garin Jr. have filed separate libel complaints against former Health secretary Paulyn Ubial.
The complaints were filed in connection with Ubial’s statements to the media that linked the couple to the Dengvaxia mess.
Garin’s complaint was filed before the Iloilo Prosecutors Office on Friday, while her husband’s was filed on Jan. 28.
In a Senate panel hearing on the controversy, Ubial had said Representative Garin had prompted her to “buy more dengue vaccine and put it in the 2018 budget.”
Ubial has also criticized former Health Secretary Garin for procuring the controversial drug Dengvaxia during then-President Benigno Aquino III’s time.
The Senate is holding hearings on the Dengvaxia mess.
Over 800,000 schoolchildren were administered the vaccine under the national government’s program.
