(Eagle News) — Senator Sherwin Gatchalian on Wednesday, Aug. 1, said he expected “concrete accomplishments” from what Philippine National Police Chief Oscar Albayalde said was the organization’s “chilling” internal cleansing.
In a statement, Gatchalian said he expected Albayalde to present these when he appears before Congress to defend the PNP’s budget.
“General Albayalde had better make good on his word,” he said, noting that the kidnapping-for-ransom incident involving “disgraced cops on the wrong side of the law shows that the PNP still has a long way to go in cleansing its ranks of scalawags.”
He was referring to the alleged kidnap-for-ransom activities of four policemen from Taguig, three of whom were caught in an entrapment operation on Tuesday, July 31.
The other was killed in an ensuing shootout with policemen who were out to arrest them.
According to Gatchalian, the progress in the PNP’s internal cleansing would be a “major factor in deciding its final budget for next year.”
“We will be as chilling, as deadly, in our cleansing program,” Albayalde had said on Tuesday, July 31.
“When we say deadly, we will be sharp in identifying these scalawags in uniform… Yung iba sa inyo na pasaway, there will come a time na tatamaan din kayo,” he added.
