(Eagle News) — Gilas Pilipinas ended their Fiba Asia journey in seventh place, after beating Jordan in a nail-biting match that saw both teams fighting tooth and nail in the last seconds.
The white shirts mostly had the lead in the game, but the Jordanians quickly gained their footing in the fourth quarter, as they made their shots from the paint and from the three-point line.
With only one minute remaining, the red shirts led Gilas by four points, but Terrence Romeo made a big three with barely forty seconds remaining.
With 21 seconds in the clock, Romeo penetrated the inside, passing the ball to Junemar Fajardo, who ended up losing it to Japeth Aguilar.
Aguilar made an easy two-point shot, giving Gilas the much- needed one-point lead with only 12.6 seconds remaining in the clock.
The Jordanians had the opportunity to shoot but ended up losing the ball after committing a travel violation.
The red shirts were forced to make a foul, sending Matthew Wright to the line.
Wright made both shots.
As the Jordanians went on the offensive, RR Pogoy made a steal, making the last two points during the fastbreak.
The final score: 75-70.
