Go reiterates push for a department for OFWs following rape of Filipina in Kuwait

(Eagle News)–Senator-elect Bong Go on Thursday, June 13, reiterated his push for the creation of a department for Overseas Filipino Workers following the reported rape of a Filipina in Kuwait.

Go had said the department would help provide assistance to OFWs, whether this be in legal form, or in other forms.

“Hinding hindi natin palalampasin ang panggagahasa sa isa nating kababayan na pumunta ng Kuwait upang magtrabaho at mabigyan ng magandang kinabukasan ang kanyang pamilya,” Go said.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has said Kuwaiti authorities  had already issued an arrest warrant for the suspect, Fayed Naser Hamad Alajmy, a 22-year-old Kuwaiti police officer.

Alajmy reportedly assisted the Filipina at the airport upon her arrival in Kuwait on June 4.

President Rodrigo Duterte has been consistent in heaping praises on OFWs, whom he has called unsung heroes.

Go, a longterm aide of President Duterte, considers Duterte his mentor.

Go ranked third in the May 13 Senate elections.
