MANILA, Philippines (Eagle News) — The war on drugs and crime launched by President Rodrigo Duterte has produced positive results in 50 days since he occupied the highest post in the country.
According to Malacañang, the crime incidence decrease significantly from 56,339 in July 2015 to 50,817 this July 2016. Malacanang also reported that index crimes or crimes against persons and property went down a month after the Duterte administration began.
Presidential Communications Office Chief Martin Andanar exhorted the Filipinos to continue helping the Philippine National Police (PNP) to further reduce crime incidence in the country.
Meanwhile, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) lauded San Miguel Corporation (SMC) for pledging a one billion peso donation to the government for the construction of new drug rehabilitation facilities.
“We commend the SMC for being among the first among the big businesses to come forward to express its all-out support to the government’s anti-drug campaign,“ said DILG Secretary Ismael D. Sueno.
In a related development, Sueno said an interagency community based rehabilitation program will be launched this month. This will be named CARE program because “it involves healing in the patients’ physical,psychological and neuro-logical dimensions.”
According to the DILG, these developments will help bolster the government’s response to the overwhelming number of drug-users surrendering to the authorities.
Based on the latest report by the PNP, more than 60,000 drug users have surrendered since the intensified campaign against illegal drugs was launched.
