Gov’t targets distribution of national ID to 1M Filipinos by year-end

(Eagle News) — The Philippine government hopes to distribute national identification cards to about a million Filipinos by the end of the year, according a lawmaker who is one of the authors of the National ID law.

Laguna 3rd District Rep. Sol Aragones, co-author of the National Identification Law or the Philippine Identification System Act, said that they are set to conduct a meeting with different agencies that will manage the implementation and distribution of the national ID system.

Argones said that their priority is to give IDs to the PWDs, senior citizens and the poor.

But eventually everyone will be given a national ID which will also serve as proof of identification, and will synchronize and harmonize all existing government-initiated identification cards into a unified system.

Each citizen will be given a national ID or Phil ID and will be given a Philippine System or PhilSys number

Meanwhile, the lawmaker also allayed the public’s fear regarding the implementation of the national ID system saying that all information would be kept secure and would not be revealed without the consent of the ID owner.
