Distribution of license plates covering 2013 to June 2016, prior to Duterte’s assumption of office, still on hold due to Supreme Court TRO, Galvante says
(Eagle News) — If all goes well, the government will start distributing the license plates with new security features next year.
But Land Transportation Office Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante said only the plates from President Rodrigo Duterte’s assumption in office in 2016 onwards are covered.
“Ang pagkakaalam ko mga naunang plaka (bago manungkulan si Presidente) ay (naistart na maideliver) na kaya lang di na madeliver kasi di pa nababayaran dahil sa (Commission on Audit) disallowance,” Galvante said in a radio interview.
Galvante said the government started distributing the license plates covering 2013 to 2016, prior to Duterte’s assumption in office, but were constrained to stop the distribution following the Supreme Court’s issuance of a temporary restraining order.
“Ang naideliver palang, out of 15 million, 3.92 million…Pag naresolve na kaso, eventually mabibigyan na sila. Unahin muna namin ang walang (legal) conflict,” Galvante said.
Earlier, Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez called for Galvante to resign, apparently irked at the continued backlog in license plates.
“Have a little shame. You can’t do your job,” he said in a message addressed to Galvante during a House hearing on Wednesday.
Galvante was not present at that time.
