(Reuters) — Five-month-old baby hippopotamus Devi explored San Diego Zoo’s pool with her mother, Funani, on Tuesday (September 1) as visitors stopped to watch their aquatic interplay.
Born on March 23, the baby hippo paddled and dove through the pool, attracting the attention of curious visitors who could see the animals through an underground glass window.
Now comfortable swimming through the deepest parts of the pool, little Devi practices her ‘barrel roll’ with her mother nearby watching.
Devi will continue to nurse for up to a year but has begun to pick up and eat food that Funani is eating.
The 30-year-old mother also gave birth last year, but that calf died several days later.
