Guevarra orders NBI, BuCor to probe alleged illegal drug activities of Bilibid inmate

(Eagle News) — Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Corrections to probe the alleged illegal drug activities of an inmate serving his sentence at the New Bilibid Prison, and to file the necessary charges against those who may be allowing the same.

In directing the two bureaus to conduct a case build-up against Rustico Ygot in Department Order No. 3, Guevarra cited Republic Act No. 10867 or the NBI Reorganization and Modernization Act, which grants the Justice Secretary the authority to order probes of any crime “when the public interest so requires,” and RA No. 10575 or the Bureau of Corrections Act of 2013, which tasks the BuCor with ensuring that “national inmates are completely incapacitated from further committing criminal acts and are totally cut off from their criminal networks” while serving their sentence inside the national penitentiary.

Guevarra ordered NBI Director Dante Gierran and BuCor’s Director General Nicanor Faeldon to “submit reports on the progress of the subject investigation and case build-up to the Office of the Secretary.”

“For immediate compliance,” Guevarra said.
