The owner of a gun store in Ohio was accidentally killed on Sunday (June 19) when a weapon that was being used during a concealed carry class in a nearby room discharged and struck him in the neck.
Police said 64-year-old James Baker of the Kayjay Gun Shop in Monroe Township was seated when the gun was accidentally discharged while someone in the classroom was practicing malfunction drills.
Police said he was pronounced dead at the scene, where a small crowd had gathered amid the police activity.
Authorities would not immediately release the type of gun that was used in the incident nor if any charges would be filed.
The accidental shooting comes just as the U.S. Senate is set to vote on four separate proposed gun laws in the wake of the deadly mass shooting at a Florida nightclub that left 49 people dead.
It also comes amid signs Americans are more willing to accept limited restrictions after the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.
