Heavy traffic to start with closure of Tandang Sora flyover at 11 p.m. March 2

 

(Eagle News) – Expect heavy traffic with the closure of the Tandang Sora flyover in Quezon City at 11 p.m. Saturday, March 2, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

MMDA general manager Jojo Garcia said that more than 100,000 motorists will be affected with the closure of the flyover at the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and Tandang Sora Avenue, in preparation for the construction of the Metro Rail Transit System Line 7.

The construction of MRT-7 is expected to be completed in two years.

The MMDA has  provided these alternate routes for motorists to be affected by the Tandang Sora flyover closure:

Motorists going to Katipunan from Tandang Sora are advised to turn right at Commonwealth Avenue and take a U-turn going eastbound in front of Microtel.

Those going to Tandang Sora from Katipunan are advised to turn right at Luzon Avenue and take a U-turn going westbound in front of Home Depot

For motorists going to Quezon Memorial Circle
• Take a U-turn in front of Home Depot, turn right on Luzon Avenue and exit Congressional Extension;
• Or turn right on Tandang Sora Avenue and U-turn on Congressional Extension;
• For those coming from Fairview, turn right on Don Antonio, go through Mapayapa going to to Luzon Avenue

For motorists going to Katipunan
• Turn right on Luzon Avenue, U-turn on Congressional Extension and go on the Luzon Flyover;
• Make a U-turn near the Technohub and turn right on Tandang Sora going to Katipunan. Drivers can also go under the Luzon Flyover;
• or U-turn on Commonwealth Avenue-Elliptical Road and turn right on University Avenue, then turn right again on C.P. Garcia exiting onto Katipunan.

The Tandang Sora flyover will be demolished to give way for the construction of the MRT-7. The area will be the site of Tandang Sora Station as well as an elevated guideway and a pocket track for the MRT-7.

Some 100,000 motorists pass along Commonwealth Avenue daily, while 2,000 to 3,000 motorists cross the Tandang Sora intersection daily.

The MRT-7 project is a 23-kilometer railway system, with 14 stations, from North Avenue in Quezon City to San Jose Del Monte in nearby Bulacan province.

It is just one of the many infrastructure projects of the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte under the “Build, Build. Build” program.
