(Eagle News) — The historical meeting and summit between United States President Donald Trump and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un will be good also for the Philippines, said a political analyst.
University of the Philippines political science professor Clarita Carlos said the historical meeting was a beautiful and historical event which would bring in peace between Seoul and Pyongyang.
Carlos said this was favorable to the country as North Korea would be able to open windows of economic opportunities.
She said that the Philippines had been friends with North Korea for a long time, and we had been maintaining diplomatic relations with Pyongyang.
“We have been long friends of North Korea, meron tayong diplomatic relations sa kanila, May embassy tayo doon sa Pyongyang and noong nagkaroon sila ng famine, Tayo ang unang tumulong sa kanila. So marami tayong economic opportunities doon,” Carlos said.
Trump and Kim Jong Un became the first US and North Korean leaders to meet and negotiate to end a decades-old nuclear stand-off.
The two leaders met on June 12, 2018 at the Capella Hotel on Sentosa Island in Singapore for the historic US-North Korea summit.
