CANNES, France (Reuters) — The cream of the crop in French and Hollywood cinema walked the red carpet at the 70th Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday (May 17).

The opening film was the out-of-competition ‘Ismael’s Ghosts,’ directed by Arnaud Desplechin and stars Marion Cotillard and Charlotte Gainsbourg.

There are 19 films in competition for the Palme d’Or this year, including Sofia Coppola’s remake of the 1971 classic Clint Eastwood movie of the same name, and French arthouse director’s film ‘L’Amant Double.’

The festival ends on May 28.
