House approves on second reading bill postponing barangay, SK polls

(Eagle News) — The House of Representatives on Wednesday approved on second reading a bill postponing the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections anew.

Under House Bill 7378, the elections slated on May 14 would be moved  to October 8, 2018.

Subsequent elections will also be held on the second Monday of October 2021, and every three years after that, under the measure.

On Monday, the House suffrage and electoral reforms committee voted to approve the deferment of the polls.

If approved on third and final reading, this would have been the third time the elections were moved.

The polls were originally scheduled on Oct. 31, 2016 but were later moved to Oct. 23, 2017, and then to May 2018.
