House leadership to meet with BTC members to thresh out BBL proposal concerns

(Eagle News) — The House of Representatives leadership is slated to meet with members of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission on Tuesday, May 22.

Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez told reporters this was to thresh out the lawmakers’ concerns about a proposed version of the Bangsamoro Basic Law.

“Kinakailangan kasama rin sila para hindi na masyadong maging problema sa plenary,” Alvarez said after an all-party caucus also aimed at resolving such issues.

Even then, Alvarez expressed confidence the House will be able to approve the BBL proposal by May 30.

For this, House Majority Leader Rodolfo Farinas said Alvarez may ask Duterte to certify the measure as urgent.

Duterte has been pushing for a BBL that aims to create a new Bangsamoro political entity that has greater economic and political powers.
