(Eagle News) — Take a leave of absence or resign.
This was the message of minority bloc solons in the House of Representatives to Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon, who has been accused of incompetence after a P6.4-billion drug shipment entered the country.
Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency National Capital Region chief Wilkins Villanueva also accused Faeldon of refusing to conduct a “control-delivery” of the six crates containing the illegal substance found in Valenzuela warehouses in May, thereby “bungling” what he said could have been strong cases against the two Taiwanese believed responsible for the shipment.
“It is a shame that the agency responsible for the entry of goods in the country failed to stop illegal drugs from coming in. The least Commissioner Faeldon can do is take a leave of absence or resign,” Rep.Danilo Suarez, minority bloc leader, said in a press conference on Wednesday.
Suarez noted that Faeldon should “face the consequences of his actions and take full responsibility in fixing this mess and restoring the integrity of the agency.”
The solons also urged Faeldon to name the supposed congressmen he said lobbied for the release of the P6.4-billion worth of drug cargoes that came into the country.
“Let the speaker discipline them,” Suarez said.
