How SC justices voted in quo warranto case vs Sereno

(Eagle News) — Three issues were discussed during deliberations on the quo warranto petition filed against  Maria Lourdes Sereno.

Here is how the justices voted on each issue, according to Supreme Court spokesperson Theodore Te.

The decision was penned by Associate Justice Noel Tijam.

Issue: Whether or not to grant petition for quo warranto

The justices voted 8-6, in favor.

In favor: Associate Justices Teresita de Castro, Diosdado Peralta, Lucas Bersamin, Francis Jardeleza, Samuel Martires, Noel Tijam, Andres Reyes Jr. and Alexander Gesmundo

Against: Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio, Associate Justices Presbitero Velasco, Mariano del Castillo, Marvic Leonen, Alfredo Caguioa

Issue: Whether or not the quo warranto petition was the proper remedy

The justices voted 9-5, in favor.

In favor: Associate Justices Presbitero Velasco, Teresita de Castro, Diosdado Peralta, Lucas Bersamin, Francis Jardeleza, Samuel Martires, Noel Tijam, Andres Reyes Jr., Alexander Gesmundo

Against: Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio, Associate Justices Mariano del Castillo, Estela Perlas Bernabe, Marvic Leonen, Alfredo Caguioa

Issue: Whether or not Sereno violated the Constitution for failure to submit complete Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth

Only nine justices expressed an opinion: Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio, Associate Justices Teresita de Castro, Diosdado Peralta, Lucas Bersamin, Francis Jardeleza, Samuel Martires, Noel Tijam, Andres Reyes Jr., Alexander Gesmundo
