QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News Service, July 30) – Most guys don’t think twice when it comes to shaving. They believe that as long as you remove the hair, then its alright. But there is a proper way to shave and it is actually necessary for your health to adhere to it.
Preparation is the most important part of a good shave. It is also the most overlooked. Remember, that the best time to shave is after taking a bath, preferably a hot shower. This is to ensure that your face is clean and your pores are open. It will also soften your beard.
If you don’t have time to take a bath, wiping your face with a warm, wet towel.
This may not be applicable all the time, but you should really consider using shaving cream. Apply it using a circular motion to relax your skin.
Make sure to use a sharp razor blade to prevent the horrors of ingrown hair and razor burns.
Using your free hand, hold the area to be shaved taut and glide the razor gently over. Avoid applying pressure and go in the direction where your beard grows.
After shaving, close your pores by rinsing with cold water. Gently pat the face dry with a soft cloth. Again, consider applying an aftershave, one that preferably moisturizes the skin.
