“Huaning” (Haitang) weakens; storm expected to exit country today

(Eagle News) – Tropical storm Huaning (international name Haitang) has slightly weakened and is about to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), according to the country’s weather bureau, PAGASA, on Monday, July 31.

But it said that rainfall is still expected to be moderate to heavy especially within 400 kilometers of the storm’s diameter.

As of 4 a.m. today, the center of tropical storm “Huaning” was estimated at 525 kilometers north northwest of Basco, Batanes, with maximum sustained winds of up to 65 kilometers per hour (65 kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph. It is forecast to move north northwest at 24 kph.

All public storm warning signals in the country have been lifted.

But PAGASA said that “sea travel remains risky over the seaboards of Northern Luzon and the western seaboard of Central Luzon.”
