GUANGDONG, China (CCTV) — Huge waves of more than 10-meters tall lashed the wharf in Shanwei, Guangdong Province of south China, as Haima, the 22nd typhoon of the year, landed on Friday afternoon.
Live video footage shows the scene like that in a disaster film, when titan cranes at the wharf were smashed and shaken by the monstrous waves.
Meanwhile, in Huizhou Prefecture, local authorities have ordered the closure of all scenic spots, evacuated tourists to safety, helped all fishing boats return to port, and prepared rubber boats, sandbags and other supplies in anticipation of the super typhoon’s arrival.
Airports in Shenzhen, Jieyang and other cities in Guangdong have canceled flights due to the approaching storm.
The railway authorities in a number of cities have also canceled or suspended train services to Guangzhou and Shenzhen
Haima will be the second storm to strike China in a week, after Typhoon Sarika, which landed in the southern province of Hainan on Tuesday morning.
