To help in caring for the environment, the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu held a tree-planting activity on November 28, 2015.
Members of the Society of Communicators and Networkers (SCAN) International led other INC brethren in planting 1500 mangrove seedlings at Barangay Kalawisan Mangrove Protective Area at Lapu-Lapu City.
“We thank the SCAN organization in planting the seedlings. It’s a great help to us, fishermen,” said Leopoldo Berame, president of Nagkahiusang Mananagat ng Kalawisan (NAMAKAL), a local organization of fishermen.
Rommel Kirit, LGU consultant on Coastal Resort Management, also said, “Although many know how to plant mangrove seedlings, the SCAN members followed the systematic way of doing it: they did it the right way and right measurements, at the right time.”
Around 200 SCAN members helped in planting the mangroves that serve as habitats for thousands of species in water and help in stabilizing the shorelines by preventing soil erosion.
Edmundo Padilla, INC Cebu South district minister, said, “This activity is in line with the SCAN motto ‘Saving lives is our priority’ since caring for the environment also saves lives.”
