(Eagle News) — The mother of Horacio Castillo III on Friday welcomed the voluntary surrender of the 10 accused in his death in September last year.
” I’m very happy they surrendered. They are facing the (consequences of) the crime they committed,” she said in an interview over CNN Philippines.
According to her, she wanted to see the 10 young men in jail.
She said they, after all, “disregarded the life of (her) son.”
“You know, they did not give my son the opportunity to live. Between 4 to 5 a.m. of September 17, hindi (nila siya) dinala nila sa ospital. They disregarded him. All they did was think about themselves,” she said.
“I will be there in every hearing facing them. I’m representing my son. I’m giving my son justice because these men, they did not do anything,” she added.
On Friday, Mhin Wei Chan, Jose Miguel Salamat, John Robin G. Ramos, Marcelino Bagtang Jr., Arvin Balag, Ralph Trangia, Axel Munro Hipe, Oliver Onofre, Joshua Joriel Macabali and Hans Matthew Rodrigo surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation agents a day after Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 40 Alfredo Ampuan Jr. issued warrants for their arrest.
Danilo Miany, executive officer of the NBI’s Internal Affairs Division, said he picked up the 10 from a place in Manila, following a call from a friend who was friends with one of the suspect’s parents that they wanted to turn themselves in.
He said he and his colleague brought the group to the NBI headquarters immediately after that.
“We will assess yung situation sa kulungan. We hope we can accommodate them in the jail. We will assess the situation considering their security in the detention area,” NBI Deputy Director Ferdinand Lavin said when asked where the accused would be detained.
In September 2017, Castillo was killed due to injuries sustained from hazing rites believed conducted by the Aegis Juris fraternity, of which the 10 were members.
