(Eagle News) — Foreigners who violate rules set by the Philippine government may be deported, the Bureau of Immigration said.
Bureau chief Jaime Morente issued the warning following reports some foreign executives of companies in the Philippines violate protocols set by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases in their workplaces.
According to Morente, foreigners are expected to follow Philippine laws in the first place.
“We will be conducting an investigation on these reports, and if found with merit, will file immigration cases against aliens involved,” Immigration Intelligence Chief Fortunato Manahan Jr. said.
He said the immigration action against erring foreigners is separate from criminal cases that may be filed against them.
“Foreign nationals who disrespect symbols of our country and persons of authority are not welcome in the Philippines,” Morente said.
Last year, the bureau banned a Spanish national from re-entering the Philippines after he figured in an altercation with a police officer in a Makati subdivision in April.
The altercation ensued after the police officer noted Parra’s househelp was watering the plants outside his house without a face mask.
