(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte personally congratulated 19-year old Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo for bringing honor and glory to the Philippines with his gold-medal win at the 49th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany — the first ever Philippine victory in world gymnastics.
Yulo was accompanied by his Japanese coach Munehiro Kugimiya, and parents Angelica and Mark Andrew, when he met the President at the Malago Clubhouse in Malacañang on October 16, 2019.
The group also did the signature Duterte-fist pose with the President during the visit in Malacanang.
Yulo will also participate in the upcoming 30th Southeast Asian Games to be held here in the Philippines from November 30 to December 11.
He will also be representing the Philippines in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after qualifying for the event.
He is the second Filipino to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Games after 30th Summer Universiade Pole Vault Gold Medalist Ernest John Obiena
