(Eagle News) — In the first month of year 2016, while snow storm Jonas bombarded the Mid-Atlantic States, all New York and New Jersey could do was wait. So when Wednesday came, some people already began to prepare.
But, in spite of all the warnings broadcast on the television, radio and internet, people weren’t prepared for the ferocity of the storm.
At around Friday evening, January 22, snow fell and became more frequent, winds became stronger.
By the time people woke up on Saturday January 23, all they could see and hear were powerful gusts of wind and snow swirling around their homes, eventually causing roads to be closed, public transportation to be shut down and a travel ban to be implemented.
But this inclement weather did not shake the faith of the members of the religious Organization Iglesia Ni Cristo or Church of Christ. As early as 4 o’clock in the morning, members started to show at the chapel, just so they would not miss worship service. Upon arrival, members united together and cleared the pathway for both gates of the chapel grounds. As a result, the others members did not miss the 7 o’clock service.
INC giving clean-up after snowstorm Jonas
By the time all of their church activities were finished it was almost 1 o’clock in the afternoon, but they did not go home just yet. They conducted an INC giving community clean-up activity, where in they helped the residents living near the chapel. Members assisted their neighbors at both North Ave and T. Clinton place.
These acts of kindness by the members of the Church of Christ truly motivated the hearts of their neighbors to help others as well and eventually creating new bonds.
