Says her “lifelong credo” is to do what is right
(Eagle News) – “One should do what is right.”
Retired Court of Appeals (CA) Associate Justice Socorro Inting, who was sworn into office as the new Commission on Elections (Comelec) commissioner before acting chairman Al Parreño on Thursday, May 4, said this was the “lifelong credo” she always adheres to.
“I am a team player. I can decide out of the box,” she added in a speech at the session hall of the Comelec main office in Manila.
Inting admitted that she has no broad knowledge about election laws, saying she “really need(ed) to study” about them and “other related matters.”
She said, however, that she was a “fast learner,” as she asked her fellow Comelec commissioners and employees to “bear with me.”
Parreño welcomed Inting, saying she would be “a great help.”
He noted the looming barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, and the 2019 midterm elections in the country.
“Your addition would greatly enhance the Commission’s ability to successfully handle the demands of preparing for these electoral exercises,” Parreño said.
Inting replaced retired Commissioner Arthur D. Lim.
With the addition, the poll body’s en banc only has two remaining vacant slots.
Apart from Inting, the en banc is composed of Parreño, Commissioners Sheriff Abas, Luie Guia and Rowena Guanzon.
