Contract business, sourcing and a top-flight complementary programme. New in 2016: Ethical Style Guide
The global consumer-goods sector will be meeting in force in Frankfurt am Main from 12 to 16 February 2016. As a barometer of current trends, a platform for ordering and for design, Ambiente is one of the major highlights of the year when it comes to trade fairs. It is divided into three main product areas: Dining, Living and Giving. The Exhibition Centre’s eastern end, with Halls 1 to 6, is reserved for Dining. Giving and Living occupy the western part of the Exhibition Centre. As a result, Ambiente reflects the entire palette of consumer goods that relate to the dining table, the kitchen, the household, luxury foods and other items, as well as gifts, items for the home and furnishings. In the Giving product area, the new Accessories & Jewellery product group (Hall 9.2) generates new synergies by bringing together jewellery, watches, leather goods, luggage and care and wellness articles.
At Ambiente 2015, there were 4,814 exhibitors who came to Frankfurt am Main from 95 countries and, for five days, exhibited their new products and innovations[1] over a gross surface area of 328,400 square metres. The Philippines were represented by 22 companies. Of the 135,000 visitors, who attended the trade fair from 152 countries, 125 came from the Philippines. 53 percent of the trade visitors came from outside Germany – more than ever before. The top ten visitor nations, after Germany, were Italy, France, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Spain, Switzerland, the USA, China, Turkey and Poland. Four months ahead of Ambiente, more than 20 companies from the Philippines have already registered for 2016, including the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), Dekokraft, Aerostone and Nature’s Legacy Eximport.
Benvenuto! Italy is Ambiente’s fifth partner country
After Denmark, France, Japan and the USA, Italy is to be the fifth partner country of the world’s leading consumer-goods fair. “I am delighted that we have been able to get Italy as the partner country for the forthcoming Ambiente show. For, not only are Italy and Germany linked by cultural and economic circumstances that are of major importance for both countries, Italy is also a nation that produces some outstanding design work – and we want to display some of it at the next Ambiente,” says Stephan Kurzawski, Senior Vice President, Messe Frankfurt Exhibition GmbH. Part of the partner-country programme is an extensive presentation of products with particularly high-quality design features. The exhibition is curated and designed by Italian designer Paola Navone. Living in Milan, she has not only made a name for herself with her creations on Italy’s design scene, she was already developing her own, internationally respected style in the 1980s. She brings to Ambiente a piece of shared history and has already curated and designed several special presentations for Messe Frankfurt. These included presentations of products in the “extra-soft touch” range (1997) and “extra – remix” (2001), as well as the design of the “waterbar H2O” café (2005).
New: Ethical Style Guide
Worldwide, consumers are attaching greater importance to sustainable products. With the Ethical Style Guide, Ambiente offers trade visitors orientation in highly complex global segment via categories such as eco-friendly materials, fair & social production, re/upcycling design, or handmade manufacturing. The exhibition stands of exhibitor who operate in accordance with ethical and/or ecological criteria are easy to find via the Guide and marked accordingly.
Solutions for the HoReCa and contract trade
Since the introduction of the Contract Business package at Ambiente in 2012, this trade fair has become the hotspot for contract business. There will be some 270 specialist exhibitors, professionals and decision-makers from the hotel and catering trades, including, for example, project-development managers, professional buyers, interior furnishings experts, interior architects and designers, restaurateurs and representatives of the luxury hotel segment, who will be able to find appropriate, relevant business contacts, expertise and tailor-made solutions in the field of commercial contract furnishings and the HoReCa (hotel, restaurant and catering) trade.
Most important sourcing platform outside China
Ambiente is the most important platform outside China for high-volume trade. At Ambiente 2015, almost 1,600 exhibitors presented a broad range of products in six halls. Alongside the Chinese exhibitors, there were also suppliers from India, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Thailand exhibiting their export ranges. Countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, Morocco, Peru and Vietnam were represented at joint stands. The ‘Passage’ sourcing areas at Ambiente offer an opportunity to search out specific, appropriate contacts and to order directly from the manufacturers. The products range from industrially produced goods to volume hand-crafted items and solutions for customisation processes.
First-class complementary programme
Ambiente 2016 will be presenting the crucial trends for the dining table, the kitchen, the home and gifts. Four different trend scenarios will be identified by the highly-regarded trend bureau bora.herke.palmisano and presented in a large special show.
For young designers, the sponsorship programmes ‘Talents’ and ‘Next’ represent an important step on the career ladder. Young designers of tomorrow, who work in the fields of product and furniture design, will be presenting their designs and prototypes to the international trade and professional public.
The special ‘Solutions’ display is all about clever ideas. Designer and curator Sebastian Bergne will be showcasing creative solutions from Ambiente exhibitors, with a focus on the dining table, kitchen and household. There are short video clips to highlight the particular features of the products selected.
In 2016, Ambiente also provides the backdrop for numerous well-known award ceremonies. Products, which skilfully combine aesthetics and function, are honoured by the Design Plus Award and showcased in a dedicated exhibition during the trade fair. The German Design Award will be presented on the first day of the show. Visitors will be able to take a look at the prize-winning products in an impressive special display. The Kitchen Innovation Award and the Plagiarius booby prize for product piracy will also be presented within the framework of Ambiente.
