TOKYO, Japan (Reuters) — Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, said on Friday (September 9) that a nuclear test possibly carried out by North Korea is absolutely inadmissable, and Japan will work closely with the U.N. Security Council to further deal with the situation.

“If North Korea did carry out a nuclear test, it is something absolutely inadmissible. We need to and will strongly protest against (their actions),” Abe told reporters. “Also, Japan is currently a member of the U.N. Security Council, so we will also work closely with New York, if this nuclear test was indeed carried out, to figure out how best to react to this situation.”

A seismic event in North Korea on Friday morning measured by the U.S. Geological Survey with a magnitude of 5.3 appeared to be a nuclear test, South Korea’s meteorological agency said earlier.
