Japan PM, Philippines and Vietnam vice presidents take part in Global Summit for Women in Tokyo

TOKYO, Japan (Reuters) — Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Thursday (May 11) received an award for the promotion of women in society by the Global Summit of Women held in Tokyo.

The event in Tokyo hotel was attended by Vice President of Philippines Leni Robredo, and Vice President of Vietnam, Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, and other high ranking women in Asia and Abe’s “Womenomics” was acclaimed as a positive movement in a country that still ranks 111th in a Global Gender Gap Report compiled in 2016 by the World Economic Forum.

The summit which was inaugurated in Canada in 1990 and aims to connect and expand economic opportunities for women worldwide. It is attended by more than a thousand people including business and government ministers from over 60 nations.
