(Eagle News)– The body of Joanna Demafelis arrived in Iloilo on Saturday, days after she was found in a freezer in an abandoned apartment in Kuwait.
The plane carrying Demafelis arrived around 6 a.m.
She was welcomed by her loved ones, who couldn’t help but break down upon seeing her remains.
Demafelis is slated to be brought to her hometown in Sara, where a two-week wake will be held.
The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration said it would provide her family with assistance, noting also that the OWWA officer who ignored her family’s plea for help has already been recalled.
Demafelis was discovered during a routine check of the apartment made as part of foreclosure procedures.
The unit was rented by a Syrian woman and her Lebanese husband, who left the apartment in 2016.
The OWWA said authorities were on the trail of the couple.
President Rodrigo Duterte has lashed out at the Kuwaiti government over reported OFW abuses, with the Department of Labor and Employment imposing a total ban on the deployment of Filipino workers there.
