(Eagle News)–Cleveland Cavalier Jordan Clarkson has been given the green-light to play in the Asian Games for the Philippines.
This was after the National Basketball Association gave him the clearance to do so, following its initial denial of the request of several Philippine sports officials he be allowed to play.
In denying their request, US National Basketball Association deputy commissioner Mark Tatum had said there was an existing agreement with FIBA that bans NBA players from competing in non-FIBA sanctioned tournaments like the Asiad.
The Asian Games are supervised by the Olympic Council of Asia.
Following the denial, Gilas Pilipinas head coach Yeng Guiao had already said the Philippine team was ready to compete in the games in Indonesia without Clarkson.
But on Tuesday, Clarkson’s inclusion in the Philippine lineup was also approved by the Indonesia Asian Games Organizing Committee, and the OCA.
The NBA and the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas have yet to make an announcement on the development.
