(Eagle News) — Another strong quake hit the Philippines, this time in Eastern Samar on Tuesday afternoon, April 23, with a recorded magnitude of 6.2, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 17 kilometers. It struck at 1:37 p.m.
The location of the quake was 19 kilometers northwest of San Julian, Eastern Samar.
Phivolcs director Renardo Solidum said aftershocks are expected after this strong quake.
The US Geological Survey recorded the quake at magnitude 6.6. Its location was 13 kilometers east of Tutubigan in Paranas town, Samar.
It later downgraded the magnitude to 6.3.
This latest quake came just a day after the strong 6.1 magnitude quake that hit Luzon on Monday, April 22 which had caused at least two buildings to collapse in Pampanga.
Search and rescue operations are still ongoing in Porac town where a four-storey building collapsed trapping more than 20 people inside. At least five fatalities were recovered by the search teams there, while nine had been pulled out alive as of Tuesday afternoon, April 23.
