(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday, June 14, gave Kadamay members who occupied the vicinity of a National Housing Authority project in Rodriguez, Rizal until 12 noon the following day to leave the area.
In a speech during the oath-taking ceremonies of newly elected barangay chiefs in Calabarzon in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, Duterte said he would order members of the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force to move in if they do not comply.
“Umalis kayo,” he said.
Earlier, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the President himself ordered the PNP not to allow a repeat of the forced occupation of NHA units in Bulacan last year.
The incident prompted President Duterte to ask the policemen and military, the intended beneficiaries of the housing units, to give way to the urban poor members.
Duterte promised to build newer and bigger units for the uniformed personnel instead.
According to Roque, the chief executive also ordered the NHA to explain why there were “idle” housing units.
He said Duterte also asked NHA when it planned to turn over the units to the beneficiaries.
