JUST IN: “Inday” now a severe tropical storm; PAGASA also monitoring LPA outside PAR

(Eagle News) — “Inday” has intensified into a severe tropical storm and is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility between tonight and tomorrow morning.

In its bulletin issued at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 20, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said that as of 10 a.m.  the center of “Inday” was seen 925 kilometers east northeast of Basco, Batanes.

“Inday” is packing maximum sustained winds of 90 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 115 kilometers per hour.

It is moving northwest at 15 kilometers per hour.

According to PAGASA, it was also monitoring a low pressure area spotted 475 kilometers west of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, outside PAR.

PAGASA said severe tropical storm “Inday” and the low pressure area will enhance the southwest monsoon, bringing “intermittent moderate to heavy monsoon rains” over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Tarlac and Nueva Ecija.

Scattered light to moderate with occasional heavy rains are also expected over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon until tomorrow, PAGASA said.
