UPDATED: Mocha Uson, Harry Roque to run for senator in 2019 — Speaker Alvarez

(Eagle News) — Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson and Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque are running for senator in 2019.

This is according to House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, who spoke during a mass oath-taking of PDP-Laban members in Cebu.

Apart from Uson and Roque, Alvarez said also included in PDP-Laban’s senatorial slate were former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chair Francis Tolentino, who ran for a slot in the Senate but lost in 2016; House Rep. Geraldine Roman; Rep. Karlo Nograles;and Rep. Albie Benitez.

There had been rumors Roque would run for a slot in the Upper House, but he never confirmed nor denied these.

Uson blogged heavily about President Rodrigo Duterte before she was given a position in government by the former Davao mayor.

But in a statement, Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III, also the PDP-Laban president, said there was “no party decision yet.”

“You can consider them as Speaker’s nominees. Party will decide in due time,” he said.
