JUST IN: Roque says he needs weekend to think about whether to stay as presidential spokesperson or not

(Eagle News) — Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said he needed the weekend to think about whether he would stay in his current position in the government.

Roque issued the statement in a press conference on Friday, Oct. 5, after some people accused him of lying when he said the President merely took a day off on Wednesday, prompting him to skip a Philippine Amusement Gaming Corp. event in the Palace.

Roque denied he lied, saying he did not know the President did go to Cardinal Santos Medical Center to undergo some tests.

“I have said I needed the weekend to think about my options..I can’t be effective as a spokesperson if I don’t know everything about the president,” Roque said.

Roque announced he would be contemplating his decision even if President Duterte said in a public speech that he was offering the presidential spokesperson another job.

Roque did not specify the new position, saying it does not exist in the first place.

“I don’t have an executive order creating this position…I’m reading everything as an objective sign,” he said.

He said his plans would be known on Monday, Oct. 8.
