Retired police officer Wally Sombero has surrendered to the police.

Incoming Philippine National Police Chief Oscar Albayalde said Sombero’s surrender on Wednesday,  April 11, was facilitated by “retired senior officers” who called Albayalde up a day before.

On the same day, the Sandiganbayan found probable cause for the plunder case against him, and his co-accused former immigration commissioners Al Argosino and Michael Robles.

The cases were in connection with the bribery incident involving businessman Jack Lam, who reportedly paid P50 million to the former commissioners through Sombero in exchange for the release of Lam’s 1316 workers.

The workers were arrested reportedly for violation of immigration laws.

Albayalde said Sombero will be turned over to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group after undergoing booking procedures, among others.

“Since I was formerly with CIDG it felt comfortable (to do this)…,” Sombero, who was presented to the media, said.

“Bahala na po ang honorable justices natin (kung saan ako ipipiit),” he added.
