Reuters — Superhero movie “Justice League” took the top spot at the North American box office over the weekend (November 17-19), earning a disappointing $96 million, according to boxofficemojo.com.
The latest installment from the DC comics stable was expected to make $125 million in its opening weekend, according to studio estimates published by BoxOfficePro.
“Wonder,” starring Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson, about a young boy navigating his way through bullying and acceptance at school, took the second place spot, ringing up $27 million in ticket sales — well over the $17 million it was expected to make in its opening weekend.
The third place spot went to Disney-Marvel’s “Thor: Ragnarok,” starring Chris Hemsworth, which added $21.7 million to its overall haul.
“Daddy’s Home 2,” starring Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell, took the fourth place spot with $14.8 million in ticket sales. Rounding out the top five was “Murder on the Orient Express,” which follows 13 passengers stranded on a train while a murder investigation unfolds, which made $13.8 million.
