SEPTEMBER 9 (Reuters) — Pop star Katy Perry and her designer best friend Jeremy Scott put their hand prints in cement in front of the famous TCL Chinese Theater on Tuesday (September 8), taking part in a time honored tradition usually reserved for the likes of screen legends like John Wayne, Marilyn Monroe and Arnold Schwarzenegger. According to theater officials it is the first time that the hand and footprint ceremony is “paying homage to not only filmmakers but to those whose contributions to all forms of pop culture make their achievements worth noting.”
Rising from humble beginning in Kansas City to the creative director of Moschino, Jeremy Scott designed Katy Perry’s costume for her 2015 Super Bowl performance as well as the dress she wore to the annual Met Gala in New York in May. He referred Katy Perry as his “best friend” during his speech.
As an iconic pop superstar, Katy Perry has received three Guinness World Records for album and singles sales. She has won five American Music Awards, five MTV Video Music Awards, fourteen People’s Choice Awards and sold 11 million albums and 81 million singles worldwide. With “Dark House” and “Roar,” she is the first artist to have multiple videos reaching 1 billion views on Vevo.
After the ceremony, a red carpet premiere of director Vlad Yudin’s documentary, “Jeremy Scott: The People’s Designer,” took place. Katy Perry also appears in the documentary, along with Miley Cyrus and Rita Ora.
