(Eagle News) — The Korean Embassy in the Philippines has donated P5 million to the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) to aid the families displaced by the conflict in Marawi.

Senator Richard Gordon, PRC chair and chief executive officer, personally thanked Korean Ambassador Kim Jae-Shin for their “timely donation” during the turn-over ceremony on Wednesday (July 5) held at the PRC Tower in Mandaluyong City.

According to the senator, the P5-million budget will be used to provide potable water, tents, jerry cans, shoes, portalets and guarded showers to Marawi  evacuees, who now number in the thousands since the conflict broke out in the city on May 23.

The PRC also plans to provide psychosocial support and child-friendly spaces for the residents.

According to the PRC, with the help of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), they were also planning to deliver relief goods to the evacuees using their newly acquired vessel, the Amazing Grace.

Korean Ambassador Kim Jae-Shin, for his part, commended the PRC for being “organized and efficient.”
